Review
"Because Daniel's story turned out so well, some people will naturally be skeptical. They will deny that his condition was as serious as it was or question whether his recovery was really as good as he described it. Nonetheless, I can confirm that he described everything accurately and honestly."Â -Â Dr. Michael Jung M.D. Â Â "I read this book with a very critical eye for several reasons. Firstly, I have had bronchiectasis all my life, myself, and secondly, I was a respiratory therapist for 23 years and know a little more about it than the usual person who has it. So I read this book with a great deal of doubt in my mind... I think his story is valid, valuable, and inspirational."Â - Laurel Shand, Respiratory Therapist

I read this book with a very critical eye for severalreasons. Firstly, I have had bronchiectasis all my life, myself, and secondly, I was a respiratory therapist for23 years and know a little more about it than the usualperson who has it. So I read this book with a greatdeal of doubt in my mind. The author suffered from asthma all his life and bronchiec-tasis for a number of years as well. His condition was notvery receptive to modern medical treatments (and the MayoClinic is one of the best in the country for both of them.)This happens with some people who have bronchiectasis; somerespond very well to the available treatments and some don't,and not even the doctors know why.The author went to many doctors, but was basically told thatthey had exhausted all the treatments they had on him. Indesperation and terror, he began looking elsewhere, unwillingto accept that there could never be any hope. He researchedeverything he thought might help, met with practitioners ofthe things he chose to begin using, and coordinated it allinto a very drastic and strict "regimen of recovery" forhimself.Eating fresh foods instead of processed whenever possible, getting enough sleep, drinking a lot of water, taking specificdietary supplements, getting exercise, meditating and doingyoga, washing his hands often and avoiding sick people---mostlycommon-sense health practices that Western medicine tells usall to do, but most of us don't really DO any of it, or don'tdo it all the time. The author DID. He did all of it, every day, and made it a toppriority over everything else, in an effort to get better. Andgradually over time, it worked. It worked very well in his case. But he really committed to it, and changed his entire lifestyle. Many people can do this for a few days or weeks or months, butthe author did it for a year, and essentially got his diseasesto a point where he felt better physically than he ever had inhis life. He's not claiming that what he did will work for anyone and every-one. He's not claiming a miracle, and he's not selling snake-oil.What is IS saying is that, when Western medicine has no moreanswers for you, you can look beyond it and see what else isout there. Research like he did, find doctors or other qualified, licensed healthcare professionals who have knowledge beyond thattaught in US medical schools, and see what alternative routes maylead to an improvement in your health. Instead of using Westernmedicine as the ONLY possible choice, use it as one of many, ifWestern medicine alone isn't helping you.The author knows his bronchiectasis and/or asthma symptoms couldreturn at any time. Neither he nor his doctors can say he iscured of either condition. But he's got his health back---he andhis lungs are in the best condition of his life, and he believesthat this is due to the healthcare choices he made and implemented, and I think his story is valid, valuable, and inspirational.I bought this book when it was still at $2.99. I have not received anyremuneration for my review; it's my own personal and actual opinionof it.
This well written book is based on the author's personal recovery from bronchiectasis, but contains lessons for anyone with an illness that is looking for help outside of standard medicine, or simply a more healthy way of being. The author concisely describes the struggles he went through with his illness and how, by taking ownership of his situation, was able to radically improve this condition. The book is a gift from the author to all who read it. It is an authentic story of teamwork, love, work, growth and lessons learned.
I was surprised to find out that this isn't only a book about beating bronchiectasis but it's also a well written thrilling story. I think the author isn’t only addressing those who suffer from Bronchiectasis but a wider audience too. I liked the author's writing style, especially the vivid descriptions. Sometimes it reminded me a medical thriller, and I didn’t want to stop reading.
Traditional medicine solves certain problems very well, but is still flummoxed by a blurry cluster of autoimmune ailments. Cures, when found, seem come instead from waging war against the underlying causes of inflammation. This is a good book on the specific weapons and tactics used in such a war: avoiding inflammatory foods, taking anti-inflammatory supplements, washing allergens out of the sinuses, using acupuncture, and increasing aerobic function through exercise and breathing.Maybe the most important insight is near the end: these approaches are almost riskless. For someone with a history of allergies or other autoimmunity, it appears riskier not to try.
Given the strong reviews, I eagerly awaited this book. Also found the cover art appealing. Having received it, and read through it, I give it three stars mainly for the cover art. The essay -- its not really a book in the traditional sense -- would benefit greatly from book-things like an index. The narrative is rather wordy, and it would be much more helpful if a reader could skip all the "filler" and go to a specific point.
I want to thank Daniel for writing this book, and for the openness and honesty he shares. I am always searching for natural ways to help myself and will try using some of the practices listed in his story. It is very inspiring to read about his focus towards finding better health and his willingness to suffer in order to achieve a positive outcome. I am aware that with bronchiectas each individual has a unique pattern for success, and know that doctors do not have the time or insight to discover the correct path for each patient. My specialist told me "this is what you have, there is no cure, I will see you in six months." Few people have heard of this disease so I very much appreciate the information given. I would recommend this book to everyone suffering from this lung condition.
Although I take issue with a few of the things in this book, I plan to incorporate many of the author's suggestions into my daily routine. I've just recently been diagnosed with Bronchiectasis and am tremendously encouraged after reading this book!
Great story,Actually, it's MY story.Super Plan of ActionUnfortunately the doctors, even the pulmonologist don't give us a plan of action. Thank you Daniel Pecaut.
