How can you go wrong with LP ? Except for a few changes that will not impact the majority of tourists, the 2017 and the 2014 versions are identical. Always great for information on the major attractions. I mean, Hey. Those temples in Bagan have been there for centuries the information on them is going to remain pretty static. The new edition does have a pharagraph about the damage done an the 3 or 4 temples that are now closed for climbing, It might be disappointing to arrive and find them closed if you didn't know before hand, but it isn't going to wreck your trip. Hotel and eating recommendations are a good stating point, but the internet is more up to date. Get whatever version you like, if you are on a budget go for the previous edition
Hotel and restaurant sections are virtually useless. Current and more comprehensive information is available for free online. Publishers need a ‘dynamic’ model that provides ongoing updates.Many sections of the country are given positive, even ‘fab’, reviews when they’re actually quite uninteresting. In-depth focus on places that should truly be destinations for travelers would be considerably more valuable.Transport and security details were often out of date. As this is ‘supposed’ to be a new edition, one can’t help but wondering whether publishers merely slap a new cover on the book and release it.I’ve used Lonely Planet as a planning framework for over a decade. Each new purchase provides increased disappointment. Without a new business model, purchasers should save their money and use other resources.
This was one of three travel books on Myanmar I purchased after I got back from a trip there. All three had loads of useful information but if you are older than 40 and don't have 20/20 vision any more you will need to wear three pairs of glasses to read the very fine print. I have hardly looked at any of them due to the difficulty of reading them. It sure takes the fun out of learning.
Going to Myanmar in Feb. This is exactly what I needed to plan my trip.
