Yes, it's a children's book. And it's engaging, informative, well-formatted, and with lovely illustrations to boot. It would make a perfect companion piece to Wilder's "Little House" books, especially the first one having to deal with the Big Woods of Wisconsin. Greenwood has done an excellent job of tying in a lot of background information as well as actual history to a basic story about a representative (fictional) pioneer family, their building in the wilderness, and their day-to-day life. The different sections also have a lot of craft / how-to pages for children (and adults!) to try their hands at making some of the pioneer items detailed in the book. If you have children, work with children, have grandchildren - share this book with them. I guarantee you'll all enjoy it.

I bought this book for my third grade daughter for a pioneer study. I read the whole book out loud to her and we both enjoyed it greatly. It was filled with information and interesting details. I even learned a few new things and that's saying something because I have loved studying pioneers since I was a girl. The illustrations are handsome and the book is laid out very nicely. The narrative story of the family is done well, it is easily read over a few days time in small sessions. You won't feel overwhelmed by the information here but neither will you feel gypped either. The activities in the book are approachable without being so watered down that you wondered if they really qualified as pioneer study tie ins. Well done!

I probably can't add much to other reviews. It is simply an excellent book. Very interesting with lots of neat facts and information about early American life that both children and adults alike will enjoy learning about. The illustrations are well done. The activities are great! Hands down a great book to read to/with your children and follow up with activities.

After reading this book, I would like to get a lot more of the Barbara Greenwood books for our school library. It is rare that you can find true history in STORY FORM along with such cute photos. The artist in this book did a very good job!

Book gives destined description and pictures of various situation and common tools used in the time of settling the west. It is along the vein of Laura Ingall's stories but with a more non fiction feel and not exactly a story. It does follow a family called the Robertsons but there is mostly information regarding living. We homeschool and really enjoy this book and ehat it offers.

I very much enjoyed the historical notes and activities interspersed throughout the text. These additions make for great homeschooling activities and give the story more depth. It was also nice that they were placed in spots where they did not distract from the fictional story of the Robertson family. There were enough illustrations to keep younger learners interested. The family described lived in Canada, but everything applied just as well to American pioneer families. I look forward to reading more of this author's work.

I loved this book. My children have been very into pioneers lately and so I bought this book after a friend recommended it. I wasn't disappointed. I loved the way the author mixed a fictional story (we follow the Robertson family through their daily life) with actual facts (how pioneers made butter, what a typical home looked like, etc.). I also enjoyed the many hands on crafts and activities that were included throughout the book. I would read a little bit to my children every day. They loved it! Great book. I will definitely be recommending this book to friends.

If you or your child are interested in pioneer life, this is a great book with many facts and very nice illustrations. I gave this to an 8 year old who is an advanced reader, but the stories/experiences of the pioneer family could be read to a younger child. I read the book myself when it arrived, I could not put it down.

First of all I have loved the hero through a lot of these books and he is simply wonderful! The heroine....I just don't get it. She was ruined twice and just went on like nothing happened? I read in these stories all the time about ruination and getting caught and having to marry or move far away but this girl just got to continue on with her very much high society life after her ruination? It just doetsnt make sense. Then all of her squeeing about Paris in every other sentence grated on my nerves. Too much time spent trying to explain to the audience why she needs Paris and not enough build up of the characters. The relationship felt flat to me. But oh well. To each their own. I still love Grace Burrowes.

Grace Burrowes is most definitely back in favour with me after this book and Once Upon a Tartan (MacGregor Trilogy) last month. She's also back on auto-buy. It seems to me that she's taken some of the criticism meted out by readers to heart e.g. I saw that quite a lot of people didn't like the overt affection shown by her male characters in this series and there was definitely none of that in this book. I never had a problem with that but it did make this book very different to the others in this series. I truly loved this book and I loved the H and h and their artistic natures.Being artists both of the main characters had sensitivities and had been hurt in their lives along the way. Both were passionate but truly complemented each other. The story is set around Christmas time and how hard it was for both the H and h for different reasons to do with their families. The H hadn't been home for Christmas in 10 years because of an old argument with his father over his art career. The h hated being around all of her extended family and their children because she believed she'd never have her own family because of choices she'd made in the past. I did want to brain the h a time or two for seeming to prefer the idea of going off to Paris rather than be with the H but she redeemed herself and I loved the way the author showed the caring of her choices later on.It takes a really talented writer to write so many books about one family but make them all unique. I highly recommend this book and I'm relieved by the author's note that she hasn't finished writing about the Windham family.

Another Grace Burroughs Windham sister, Jenny is the last of the sisters (and I read out if order, now must read Eve's story). Jenny is an artist and not appreciated by her family when along comes Elijah, another artist. Will they end up together? What do you think? This story has a plot poin t that the others did not, they are both willing to sacrifice for the other's happiness, even though they will each be miserable. Bit fortunately, her parents, the Duke and Duchess are great manipulators, so no sacrifices needed. It has been a pleasure reading Bout this family, from the Courtship, to the stories of all the children. And now there are lots of grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews. The series could go on for ages.

I'm a big fan of Grace Burrowes and she does so many things right, from giving us a heroine who is smart, feisty, and with hidden internal Issues, and a hot sexy hero who says and does (most of) the right things.Still, this book wasn't as compelling for me as her other works. Jenny seemed less in touch with herself than she needed to be; Elijah wasn't willing to fight for her, until he was prodded into it... The sex was nicely steamy, most of the other family characters are all brought nicely in (which may be confusing to readers who haven't read the other books in the series), there's plenty of weaving the Christmas theme in. The conflict keeping Jenny and Elijah apart felt too insubstantial and then too quickly resolved. The Duke and Duchess are always enjoyable, but it became a little hard to believe they could be so intuitive about their offspring in some ways, obtuse in others, but never really WRONG about them, or miscalculating in their attempts to nudge their daughter towards True Love.If you decide to read any of the Windham novels, don't start with this one; IMO it is the least satisfying, though it's still a good read.

Lady Jenny lives in a time when ladies are expected to marry well, take care of the home, have and raise children, and take care of their husbands. They are not supposed to work outside of the home unless it is a charity that they are helping to support. Lady Jenny, though is an artist with great talent. Her family down plays this as a hobby, but she would like nothing more than to be able to study art and become an artist. Her family has hired Elijah Harrison, an artist, to paint the portrait of 2 of Jenny's nephews. Elijah is familiar with Jenny. He remembers her as a female student that used to disguise herself to attend classes that he model in. He remembers her art work as being superior to her classmates and her as being very shy. He has asked her family to allow her to assist him in the painting the portraits. They go forward to develop a strong friendship and more. This is a wonderful romantic story of 2 artistic people and the love they share for their art and how their respect and love of each other grows and develops. The characters are both strong and compliment each other. The story is well written, with surprises, and the warmth of family ties that are so characteristic of Ms. Burrowes' books. Definately another winner from this fine author.

This book marks the end of my Windham Family reading binge. Each story has paired a couple with a commonality: horses, secrets, domesticity. In the case of Jenny and Elijah, it is art-sketching and painting. Their story reads like a slow dance of Polite Society with visual art descriptions. Not my favorite of the stories but I wouldn't have left it out.Of Jenny: "She’d trapped him with those warm hands, cradled his jaw in a grip both gentle and unbreakable. Her kisses were like brushstrokes, creating the contours and shadows of a yearning not entirely sexual. Though sexual enough."

Copper's treatment is concise and informative. This book is packed with photographs and color plates. While the book deals mainly with the air war (as you would expect from the title), Cooper also provides coverage of the land battles and politics (photos of armor, infantry and some OOBs). Can't recommend this book enough.

The little-known Ogaden war between Ethiopia and Somalia in 1977-78 was notable for more than the outcome of border dispute. In aviation circles, Ethiopia's seemingly outmatched Northrop F-5s handily mastered the Somali MiG-21s, proving yet again the primacy of pilot training over hardware. While the Ethiopian Air Force was small by any measure, its fighter pilots enjoyed an unusually high standard of training, benefiting from years of experience in the United States. As Tom Cooper ably demonstrates, the Northrop Tigers scored at least 11-0 against their faster, presumably more capable enemies, and undoubtedly the tally was significantly higher because the Ethiopians did not credit "maneuver kills" or the dramatic results of Somali mistakes.Though the focus is on aviation, Cooper does an excellent job of placing the air war in context of the overall situation. It is no easy task, given the confusing geo-strategic situation with rapidly-shifting alliances. At the end, the Soviets gave up on their nominal Somali allies and established a massive airlift to sustain, then expand, Ethiopia's military capability. Cuban military personnel, including pilots, also were engaged on Ethiopia's side, leading to a smorgasbord of aircraft types and markings for Western historians and buffs to sort out."Wings Over Ogaden" serves as a model of persistent research and determined digging in an obscure but intriguing subject. Thank goodness for Tom Cooper and ACIG.org. Without them, our knowledge of military aviation history would be far less complete.

A well written, in depth work chronicling the air aspect of the Ogaden War between Ethiopia and Somalia. An excellent resource on a little known and understood conflict.

The other reviews are more than adequate to describe this book. A very welcome addition to my library.

This book was one of the best books covering this conflict I have read. Book has the history behind the conflict and the types of aircraft used. Lots of color pictures and detail color drawings. Do not be confused by the title this book goes into great detail about the ground campaign also. After reading I was impressed by both sides and their fighting ablities.

Good detailed coverage of the air war, with surprising informative look at the ground campaign as well. All together a nice read, but teases me enough overall on this little known war that I wanted to learn even more.

I was so excited to find this book on here that it made me tachypneic and tachycardic. The exam hints in it are really helpful for the most part. However a couple of them are just common sense. There is a code inside the front cover that gives you access online to multiple clinical simulation questions. If you're reading this and you have questions about the book or the TCM or CSE, feel free to ask me a question! I would be happy to help!

This is a great book to get through NBRC exams. I would recommend reading this early on in your program... Maybe correlate these chapters with your syllabus. It's an easy read and makes things simple. I did not buy any other book before taking my boards, this was plenty!!!

This book was awesome to review Respiratory before I took my boards. I used this book and Kettering to pass my CRT and RRT exams. This book gives great study tips/hints for the tests in little boxes throughout the chapter, and also gives practice questions. In the older version there is a cd with practice questions and sims with explanations that helped me. In the newer edition, there is a website to go on for practice, instead of the cd. I had the original book, my husband had the newer version last year.This book takes a long time to read/go through if you are being thorough, but it is worth it so you are not retaking the tests several times - I passed all my tests the first time I took them. Good practice questions too.If you want to pass the test, would definitely recommend this book.

Ten years ago, when I first became an RT, I studied with an older version of this book that I borrowed from a friend. I passed my CRT exam with flying colors. Now ten years later I decided to bite the bullet and study for the RRT as more hospitals are requiring it. I purchased this book because of my previous success. It had been a long time since I studied, but this is an excellent review. Not too overwhelming, just enough to remind me what I learned in school (vs the field). The online content was especially helpful. I gave myself 2 months to study and passed the TMC at the RRT cut score. This was my only study material. Now I'm studying for my clin sims. Will be taking it in the next 3 months.

Do not buy Kindle version. It is not complete because it does not include code to the practice tests that come with physical book. I have called Amazon about this and will be swapped to physical version because there is no code provided for digital version.

A great overview of the material required to pass the NBRC RRT exam. Easily on par with other written texts of this sort, the information was up to date as of this writing.

This was one of my favorite books to use for the respiratory therapy tmc exam

You must get it with the code to get the maximum benefit. I haven't read the whole book yet but so far it has been a very useful refresher tool for past learning. I have tried the online exam in the learning mode and found it to be an awesome learning tool as well as giving insight to how the examiners want you to think. I highly recommend this for anyone going through a respiratory care program.

Ditto on the favorable reviews -- this gives a great history of influential artists and themes over the years, from early 1800's up through the 1950's. Focused mainly on American artists and old-school themes, but also includes a little on some of the great Brit, Nordic and Japanese artists as well. Nice balance of historic photos, flash and text, and well organized thematically. Very informative for those looking for a bit of background or researching their next ink.

A good mix of well-known and unknown tattoo artists throughout history. Solid blending of flash and narrative, as well.

This book is awesome...plenty of "olde tyme" tattoo flash for reference. People talk about "old school" all the time and don't really know what they're talking about...this book is entirely compiled of the original old school style flash and not awkward modern reinterpretations of it.The drawings contained in this book were created by self-taught untrained artists who only had a limited range of subject matter to emulate and execute. Many of the drawings may seem a bit rough and primitive but remember the art of tattoo has only recently been adopted by the fine arts community and this book represents the traditional artwork of tattooists in the early part of the twentieth century...in it's completely unadulterated form without the self consciousness of modern art. This book is a must for the serious collector or general enthusiast of classical European/American tattoo traditions.

There is no shortage of tattoo books coming out these days.I liked this one because it dealt with old school flash which is my preference.A lot of interesting information and well illustrated.Quite a bit on George Burchett and his work which I found especially good.

I bought this book for a burgeoning Ukrainian tattoo artist in zaporozhye oblast- he really appreciated it!

This is a great book. It's that simple. If you're at all interested in classic or vintage tattoos then let this be your first book on the subject, or if you have other tattoo topic books, then you need to add this to that collection.I was interested in a book on old school or vintage tattoos. My main purpose was to learn a little bit more about Sailor Jerry Collins and his influences. I thought maybe there would be some other interesting tidbits of information on the history of what we now consider "vintage tattoos" and maybe some cool pictures - what I got was an amazing surprise.There is so much fantastic and detailed information - none of it boring. The book takes you on an incredible journey through time, style, artists and even equipment.Even if you don't know how to read, the pictures and old flash of these vintage tattoos are worth the price of admission ... ok, the price of the book, but you get the point.Whether you're looking for tattoo ideas, a tattoo history lesson or want to have a unique perspective on vintage tattoos - this is a must add to your bookshelf.
