This is nice in some ways because this book is in comic book form which is unusual for books that typically appeal to girls. However the story to me and my child was weird and drug out. It's one I easy said buy too.

I loved this book! The cover was kind of hard to keep on the front, but otherwise the story was fun and none of the pages were torn.

Great book that may help open a discussion on domestic abuse with students.

We first saw this book at our library and checked it out. My 10 year old daughter really loved it and so we bought a copy for ourselves. We both enjoyed reading it together, and she's read it on our own and then she just started reading it again (to me -- which is fun for a change). This is a graphic novel, so much of the story line portrayed through illustration rather than words. I think there is a good balance between imagery and words, given that it is a graphic novel. We've recommended the book to friends and will enjoy repeated readings of it :)

My 8 year old loved it. It's a touching story with beautiful illustrations. It is difficult to read on a Kindle, however.

In an independently run aquarium by the sea, a man claiming to be Neptune runs daily shows and has his Fish Girl tantalize visitors with just enough of a glimpse to keep them coming back. For years, the Fish Girl has believed that the man really is Neptune, god of the sea. But visits from a human girl about her age prompt her to start questioning her world and all that she has known.I was super excited to hear that David Wiesner was making a graphic novel. He is one of my favorite illustrators. This did not disappoint. Wiesner's art is amazing as always. I can't imagine how long this took him to make! Napoli wrote a story that's a little bit of a Little Mermaid tale without any romantic elements. (It's also a little bit of a human slavery tale.) It draws you in slowly, you're not sure at first what to believe. And then you're cheering for a just ending. As a side note, I loved the girl's best friend octopus. It was a great unique choice of companion creature. A beautiful graphic novel great for fans of fantasy stories.Notes on content: No language issues. No sexual content (the girl always has some strategic hair placement, other creatures around her, etc.). There's a natural disaster that causes some property damage, but no people get physically hurt.

I'm a huge fan of David Wiesner (his book Flotsam had no words at all but is fascinating for all ages; The Three Pigs has just a couple of sentences per page but is mind-bending and interesting for all ages), and this book is a step older, starting around age 8. It's still good for slower readers since there aren't a lot of words on any page; it's just that some are more advanced ("spectacle," "fortunate," "beautiful"). It doesn't have the gorgeous-gorgeous magical images of Flotsam but at first glance is closer to comic book / graphic novel style (you can use Amazon's "look inside" feature to get a sense of them). The magic in this book is once again in its schema-changing story. The fish-girl starts out in a kingdom that seems magical and loving, but over time you notice that all is not as it seems. It's a coming-of-age story in the sense of learning to re-evaluate your own surroundings, branching out even when it's uncomfortable and difficult, and, yes, finally achieving freedom and peace. It's an enjoyable graphic novel on its surface, but I also appreciated the subtle message that at some point you may have to find your own truth rather than relying solely on what other people tell you.

Last year when the great fanzine "Blood ‘n’ Thunder" ended with issue #50 (actually a double issue of #49/50), we were promised that BnT would continue as a series of standalone themed books.Well, we now have the first of these: Blood ’n’ Thunder Presents #1: Pride of the Pulps!Pulps, of course, were usually looked down upon regarding their literary quality. But a few, very few, published stories on par with the “slick” fiction magazines. So the focus of this volume is on the handful of top all-fiction pulp magazines, Adventure, All-American Fiction, Short Stories, The Popular Magazine, Famous Fantastic Mysteries and West (just the 1920s issues), that accomplished this.This volume contains lengthy, in-depth surveys of these all-fiction magazines, reprinted from past issues of BnT. However, they have been revised and expanded from their original appearances. We see their evolution as magazines, and note the memorable authors, stories, and characters, which hopefully will spark an interest in searching out these stories and reading them.The volume is profusely illustrated with covers (including some scans of original cover paintings) and interior illustrations. I just wish these were in color. As I looked over the covers for Adventure, I wish someone would produce these as posters. Leave the Adventure logo and get rid of the rest of the type so we can enjoy the colorful artwork.As the first volume in this new series of books, I hope that those that follow will be of this caliber. No work yet as to what might be planned or when.I should also point out that Murania Press has put out a "Blood ‘n’ Thunder Sampler", a collection of previous articles. If you’ve never checked out BnT, this may be a great intro to the magazine.

PRIDE OF THE PULPS provides in-depth, incredibly well-researched historical overviews of the some of the best of the classic pulp fiction magazines that were published. Like all of the Blood 'N' Thunder publications, this is a book that will appeal to both serious pulp mag geeks and to newbies who want to learn about the pulps. It has a wealth of detailed information and is well-illustrated with many cover scans and some nice original artwork by top pulp artists. Five stars.

About the Author

John Thie, DC was president of the Touch For Health Foundation after having led the Thie Chiropractic Clinic for 35 years as a director in Pasadena, California. With degrees from USC, the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic, and UCLA, he served on the faculties of many Southern California universities, where his treatment and technique gained recognition throughout the world. Touch For Health (TFH) is an effective system that can be used to balance the body's muscles (42 from head to toe) with the associated acupuncture meridians and organ systems (12 organ meridians in all). Lots of pictures, showing the meridian pathways and acupressure holding points for self healing (e.g. to tonify or to sedate). A very comprehensive system that is well worth your investment in health!

This edition has been phenomenally improved! I owned the original published more than thirty years ago. The photos and illustrations clearly demonstrate various tests, point locations, acupressure principles, etc. The binding and protective cover have been completely redesigned. This manual contains a wealth of proactive health balancing and maintainence information, well organized for those who are being first introduced to the system. The acupressure sections of the book contain a wealth of traditional and innovative new information presented clearly and concisely. Highly recommended.

A friend of mine is a chiropractor & he mentioned this is the one book to get if I wanted to learn how to take care of my body. The book came on time. The info in this book is amazing. Laid out for someone like myself who didn't know anything about the human body, I never had an anatomy class or any other medical classes in college: this book is written in easy to understand format. Outstanding book that was recommended to me by my chiropractor. I have not taken time to cover as much I would have liked due to time and priorities. If you are thinking about getting one get it now because this book seems to go out of stock everywhere w/o notice. Last time I looked people were trying to get $1,000 for a new book because no one had them in stock. I have four copies now.

This goes into much more detail than I thought it would. It has lots of pictures and explains just how to use different therapies to improve health. I think next time I would get the spiral edition, but it is still a good book to have for my reference.
