Buy the book before buying the coin -- this adage is more true today than ever before and can save you a lot of money and grief. The blue book gives a good idea of what coins are actually worth, as in if you buy a coin today and need to sell it tomorrow, here's last year's sale price. Generally, if you use the red book version only, substract about 2/3rds of the price and you'll have a fair idea of how much a coin dealer may pay you for your coin(s). The blue book is the better book to determine how much your coins are actually worth. If you want to make money in coins, hold them for a long time (e.g., 5 to 10+ years) and hope silver and gold skyrocket again. Coin collecting is a great hobby but if you're looking for an investment to quickly turnaround for profit, coin collecting, in general, is not the way to go. Like the red book version, the blue book version gives the coin collector invaluable information, albeit in summary form. In addition to buying the blue book, buy or read books on counterfeits and how to grade coins. Sadly, the market is flooded with Chinese fakes and some of these coins have even fooled experts. So, collect with caution and if a deal sounds too good to be true, walk away -- the coin may be a fake (e.g., weight is wrong) or cleaned (e.g., shiny coin but no cartwheel effect when turning it in the light) or artificially toned. (Note: cleaned coins or heavily dipped coins are worth a lot less than the prices listed in the blue book, sometimes 75% less.) This is one hobby where more knowledge through books and online articles can save you a lot of money while also enhancing enjoyment and appreciation for the beauty of coins.

As always, high quality book. I always take it to Office Depot/Max and have them spiral-bind it - the same way that the red book comes from the dealer. That way I can open it to the page I need and lay it flat while I examine the coin(s) I'm working on.

The Red Book gives the reader an idea of what the coins cost while the Blue Book gives an idea of for what they sold. I've discovered that the difference between purchase and resale can be as much as 75%, with 50% difference being the average. Please keep in mind that the prices in both the Red Book and Blue Book are about a year old because of publishing constraints. Overall, I use this book and an online site by a large coin grading service to determine the true value of coins. For serious coin traders, the Grey Sheet is a better indicator but its cost is prohibitive to many of us who collect for reasons unrelated to making a living buying and selling coins. The information in this book is worth the price alone. Always read (and buy) the book first, then buy or sell the coin.

First thing to keep in mind is that anyone buying this book is looking to see what their collection is worth. If you need to insure your collection or you are planning to sell off part or all of it, you need some idea of what to ask for it. For those reasons this book will come in very handy. Having said that, I must admit it does contain a few gaps in the area of very old gold coins, and the same for silver ones. Over all worth the money.2012 Handbook of U.s. Ah the blue book of coins. This helps when pricing coins when buying them. It is a average whoesale of any coin as a dealer would buy and it is helpfull. Combine this with the little red book and you can always make a little money. Mostly it is fun for the hunt!!!

I've always appreciated the R.S. Yeoman "Redbook" and "Bluebook" issues since my early childhood years. Mr. Yeoman did such a great job of telling the public what was out there for the American public to find and collect. I'm now 65 years old and I still get great benefit from reviewing Mr. Yeoman's catalogs and handbooks in an effort improve my own collections US and World coinage.

I'm not an expert on coins but have a number of pre '64 items. This book has the information I need to estimate grade and value. It contains a brief individual instruction for most types on determining grade plus circulation and estimated value.

The overall management of the program within a congregation and how the lay care givers are trained and supervised presents a very rigorous and theologically sound model. The supervision model he espouses is similar to that received by ministers-in-training in clinical pastoral education programs, and might be a stretch to implement in some congregations. He continually circles back to a simple truth that is one of the book's main premises: the most fundamental gift of lay ministry is presence - compassionate, nonjudgmental presence. It is as important to the lay minister as it is to the person being cared for. If congregations were to implement such a program, I believe it would be much less likely that anyone in the congregation would “fall through the cracks.” We are much indebted to the author for producing this program and documenting it so well in this book.

A book that has changed the way I analyze social and political trends.The first half is rather abstract, defining knowledge and how we know things, and showing how knowledge does and does not affect decisions we make. The second half uses the framework set up in the first half to discuss in some detail economic, social and political decision making and how knowledge is used. The final summary makes a strong case for individual liberty rather than bureaucratic fiat in decision making.A scholarly must-read.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand the reason stated political and social intentions somehow never come to pass. It is because those who take the power to make decisions (politicians, bureaucrats and the intelligentsia) do not have anywhere near enough knowledge to choose wisely even if they are not corrupt. The writing is clear, but likely too challenging for anyone not comfortable with upper-division college-level concepts. And, there are no diagrams or illustrations. That said, every citizen should read it. Twice.

Excellent understanding on how choices are made, where information comes from for making decisions and who has the best access to what information to make which decisions.

Written with a little more complexity than I have previously experienced from Dr. Sowell, this is not a "basic" book. That said, it containssuch a wealth of information that I definitely found it worth the time.

Outstanding book, despite the intellectually challenging nature of the content. The word "seminal" is appropriate here.

This is really an amazing book, and even as a person who reads mostly science, it was an important read for me. One of the best books to help a person understand not only economics, but just about everything. I "read it" as an audio-book first, then actually read the book. It was one of theose books that really changes the way you look at things in the world, ie things that you take for granted that you may have even considered may be looked at in a totally different way.

I'm very excited to see this book available in Kindle format as it was out of print for a long time.I read this book in college back in the 80s and it is one of the primary reasons I decided to major in economics and to go on to study economics in graduate school. It is intellectually exciting stuff! Despite having been written over thirty years ago, Knowledge and Decisions is extremely relevant to contemporary public policy issues because the focus is essentially on HOW to think analytically. The discussion of marginal analysis in economics is particularly brilliant. If only this book could be required reading for politicians and journalists -- too many of whom simply lack the tools provided by Dr. Sowell to really think clearly about how the economy works.I recommend this book especially to any student interested in public policy or economics.

I ordered this book for my daughter and she couldn’t put it down but at page 573, it jumped to 620. I’ve missed the return window. Just make sure to check the pages as soon as you receive the book.

Great price, but it is all 7 books combined into one volume and one table of contents; which makes navigating to different books and chapters a bit more difficult than if they were 7 distinct books.

IMPORTANT: For U.S. customers purchasing the illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, you will notice the text has NOT been converted to the "Americanized" version of the original U.S. releases. This difference isn't as prominent or noticeable as it was with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone, but still something to keep in mind. Also, to answer a question that has come up quite a bit, this is the FULL BOOK and not an abridged or shortened version.The overall quality is fantastic. The colors are vibrant and the images are, in my opinion, even better than those in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone: The Illustrated Edition (Harry Potter, Book 1).The best features:1. Underneath the book jacket, the novel is bound in a sturdy orange hardback with green lettering on the spine.2. The paper is thick with an eggshell glossy finish.3. All chapter intros are illustrated.4. Some images take up full pages or multiple pages. Most illustrations share the page with text.5. Every inch of the book is illustrated or decorated in some fashion. There are NO white pages in the book. Even the pages without large illustrations have the paper printed and marked with ink blots or paper "stains". In Chamber of Secrets (compared to Sorcerer's Stone), some pages even have beautiful patterns over the entire page. One page has a spider-web pattern and is right next to a picture of Aragog. Quite brilliant overall.I would highly recommend this for anyone looking to read the series (again, or for the first time), especially if you plan to read this with someone younger. Based on the fact that the illustrations for this book were even better than in the first book, I'm now looking forward to the rest of the series even more. Prisoner of Azkaban is next and I'm heartbroken it'll be so long before I get to have it in my collection.

I didn't read Potter as a child, unfortunately Christians were making a fuss over it and it was banned. Now as an adult with an 11 year old daughter I delved in and having read the firs chapter of the first book , I declared I didn't get the fuss...I am now in my second read through of the books. I finished them in three weeks. We've watched the first three movies and I await my daughter finishing each box anxiously so we can watch the next!The books are so well written they transport you, nothing less. It's a great escape at the end of the day.As for all the Christian hullabaloo there's no real magic in the book. It's on par with bewitched or cartoons. I suppose if you're the type to ban Disney then these aren't for you, but for the rest of the population they're really harmless and silly.The later books are a bit darker but the first several are really kind of cartoon magic.This second book is better than the first as we are already introduced to all the characters. Character development and friendships deepen in the second book and you begin to become attached to the little magicians and start to realize why this series created such a rabid fandom.The books are adventurous and imaginative and have so much heart. The stories are packed with substance- very little to no filler in these books. They're a kids series, but it's the first time in a long time I have read a book and didn't feel like skimming a good bit. There's nothing you want to miss in these!It's great for a parent to read with their child, bc anytime you can bond over something especially as they get older it's a wonderful thing.And for those adults who didn't read as a kid, go ahead, you won't be bored. Yes they're kids books but they're written on a level everyone can enjoy. That's the real magic!

The Chamber of Secrets is in my opinion the weakest of the Harry Potter books. Still, it is a great read compared to 90% of other books in general, and 99% of other children's fantasy novels. The art in these books are simply amazing. They add to the story subtly, rather than take the story over as the movies did. To me, this is vital, as part of the joy of the Harry Potter world is the evocation of your imagination. I am happy to give my kids a little push with art, as they clearly still create their own images of quidditch, Hagrid, and the often explosive and unexpected effects of Ron's broken wand.

These illustrated editions of Harry Potter were done right! All of the original text is there and the artwork is beautiful. Every page has something, whether it's an illustration that takes up a full double page spread, a little drawing in the corner, a thematic border, or just a visually textured background. It may sound chaotic, like the visuals could be too much and break up the flow of reading but it is not; it enhances the story as you turn the pages and delight in the new visuals that each page brings. I imagine these would be a great way to bring children into the story, but they're so nice you may want to protect and collect these beauties. I can't wait for them to release the others.

I have way too many books on art and a lot are just the same thing over and over. If I read them all I would never have time to paint. But this book is different. It is actually well worth reading and trying out stuff. Who would have though it was so easy to paint copper pots. If you only get one book on oil colors, get this one.

Best thing I ever did, buying this book. now I can throw away all those which are useless compared to this one.

I'm a new member to the Episcopal church and have wanted my own BCP. This ended up being everything I wanted it to be. It's about the same size as my travel bible so it is easy to bring along with me and the print isn't overly small until you get to the historical documents in the back. The only thing that would make it better would be a zippered binding to help preserve the pages but all in all, I am very pleased with it. It includes a section at the beginning for Baptism, Confirmation and Marriage and two bookmarks. It's a really beautiful book and the pictures really don't do it justice.

When I recently became a member of the Episcopal Church, I decided to purchase a personal copy of the Book of Common Prayer (BCP). I like everything about this wonderful book. It contains all of the Church’s liturgical prayers, including two rites of the Holy Eucharist, the Daily Office, and prayers for many special occasions. It also contains the complete Book of Psalms, and a list of Bible readings for every day of the year. I use my BCP primarily for my morning and evening prayers.My BCP measures about 7¾” x 5½ “x 1¾,” so it is a perfect size for me. It has a durable cloth-over-board hard cover that feels very solid in my hands. The binding appears to be sewn rather than glued, which makes it more durable and allows me to lay it flat when opened. The paper is smooth but not glossy, and of sufficient weight to make it reasonably wrinkle- and tear-resistant. The text is set in a font that’s very crisp, clear, and easy to read. The book’s page edges are not gilded, and there are no marker ribbons.I am very pleased with my new Book of Common Prayer. Although it is not a substitute for the Bible, which is the cornerstone of my Christian faith, it is a very useful guide for me in my daily prayer and meditation. Highly recommended.

I have two Kindle versions of the BCP, both the one by Episcopal Church and Christian Miracle Foundation Press (EC for short) as well as the one by Church Publishing (CP). I feel like they each have pros and cons, and I'm happy to have both. I'm placing this same review in both locations.I prefer the formatting in the CP; it's a bit cleaner. However, the EC includes the page numbers which, while it can be disruptive while reading, certainly helps me to find a particular page quickly.The Table of Contents in the CP is short and easy to navigate while the one in the EC is very long and takes forever to get through. So the CP TOC will get you to a general area of the book, while the EC TOC will get you to exactly the spot that you want. I don't use the TOC often because I just bookmark all the main spots that I want to get to quickly.One thing that I love about the EC is that in the Daily Office Lectionary, the Psalms readings are hyperlinked to the Psalter, making it very easy to move back and forth between the two sections of the book.Both books occasionally crash the Kindle app, but it does seem like the CP version does it more often.If I had to choose only one (which, realistically, I should have), it would be the EC version. I find that its pros outweigh its cons, and it's less than a third of the price of the CP version.

Paging is different than the original book, which creates problems. Page numbers are an important reference during the course of Episcopal servicces.

This book will be useful to Christians of many denominations especially those that celebrate Holy Communion (Eucharist) regularly and have traditional Christian observances like Ash Wednesday and the like. It is probably particularly appropriate for Methodists, Lutherans, Episcopalian, Catholic, Orthodox and Anglicans. The majority of the book is or comes from scripture. Much of the language and material from the original book of Common Prayer in 1549 has obviously been updated although the original statements are included. Many of the prayers are particularly thoughtful---see Prayer for the Church # 7 page 816. The copy I received is nice quality blue leather, two ribbon markers, quality sewn binding and gold gilt page edge.

Perfect for my moments of quiet contemplation and prayer. As an Anglican, I was given a copy of 'The Book of Common Prayer' by my church's reverend at my confirmation at age 15, back in 1995. She had written a short prayer inside and I used and cherished that copy greatly over the years, even to this day. Although I still have it for sentimental reasons, I purchased this new copy because it has nice, larger print and can handle more daily use of wear and tear. I hope to continue to use both for decades to come, and hopefully, pass both on to any future children I may have.

For me, this is the only version of the 1979 BCP to own. Excellent binding, and the pages lie flat. Also, the print size is perfect for anyone of any age.

Terribly disappointed and hope to get my purchase price refunded. This ebook freezes frequently, and apparently the psalter is not available at all. Navigation system is next to worthless. It would have been so helpful to have, in order to lighten the load. Bah humbug.
